Previous | Home | Next"The Royal Norwegian Mining Academy" was founded in 1757 as the world's oldest mining academy. The building was erected in 1786. The institution was closed in 1814. It was the residence for the Kongsberg Silver Works general managers 1814-1956, and since then the Offices of the Defense. The building is scheduled as a monument (is protected as a national heritage monument). This building was taken over (in 2006) by the Norwegian Mining Museum in Kongsberg and its interior will be refurbished and restored to its original appearance. It will then be used for meetings, teaching, museum displays, and other instructional activities.
